Around Seattle: Mariners Baseball Game!

Everyone always says that a baseball game is an unmissable experience in seeing the American culture. Seattle has its beloved team the Mariners, so I was really excited when I finally took the time to go to a game. Part of the thrill is just walking up to the massive stadium! Safeco field is not just some blip on the radar, it is a huge structure and very prominent on the skyline as you pass through the city. In fact, coming in from the airport out south to the city centre, it is one of the first big recognisable architectural structures you see from the freeway.

We took our seats and settled in the sun. The game began and I tried to focus on what was happening and keep up with the play but to be honest I was more interested in relaxing on my chair in the sun. Maybe it was the fact that it was actually a beautifully sunny day in Seattle (which is so rare), or maybe I was just exhausted from working all week, but simply sitting in my seat enjoying the warmth and the sky was more than enough to amuse me!

Every so often we would get up and wander around the food options, take pictures and then wander back to our seats.

After an hour or so, I suddenly realised that the game would be continuing for another hour or two. And as much as I was loving the relaxation, I couldn't imagine sitting there for another couple of hours. I mentioned this to the others, and thankfully, many of them shared my feelings and we decided to leave after another half hour. So we waited out the last half hour, I watched some more of the game, and some more of the sky (oooh beautiful clouds) then we happily headed for the door!

So, baseball is not my thing, but hey, I am so glad that I went to the game, I really enjoyed myself. I got to watch a bit of baseball, spend time in the sun with my friends and relax. The fact that I have no idea what the score was or who won in the end is superfluous to the whole event! It was a wonderful day, and another cultural experience for me to tick off!
